Detangling doesn't have to mean breakage. With the right products and technique, you can go from knotted to smooth without losing a single strand. Here's the complete damage-free detangling routine.

The Damage-Free Detangling Routine

Step 1: Never Detangle Dry Hair Without Product

Dry hair has no slip — the brush or comb catches on every knot and snaps the hair. Always apply a detangling product first. The It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin (10 oz) detangles, adds slip, controls frizz, and strengthens with keratin — spray generously on damp or dry hair before detangling.

Step 2: Use the Right Tool for the Job

For wet hair: always use a wide-tooth comb or the WetBrush Original Detangler — its flexible IntelliFlex bristles bend around knots instead of ripping through them, making it the gentlest brush for wet, fragile hair.

For dry hair: use a flexible-bristle detangling brush. The WetBrush works on dry hair too — its design prevents the snapping that stiff brushes cause.

Step 3: Section Hair Before Detangling

Divide hair into 4–6 sections. Work on one section at a time — this prevents re-tangling and makes the process faster and more controlled.

Step 4: Always Start at the Ends

Hold the hair above the section you're working on to reduce tension on the scalp. Start at the ends and work out knots in small sections, gradually moving upward toward the root. Never drag from root to tip.

Step 5: Apply a Leave-In After Detangling

Once detangled, apply the SEEN Leave-In Conditioner — a heat protectant and detangler that hydrates and keeps hair smooth and tangle-resistant throughout the day. Paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free.

Detangling Tips for Fragile Hair

  • Detangle in the shower with conditioner still in — maximum slip, minimum breakage
  • Use a microfiber towel to dry — less friction means fewer new tangles
  • Detangle before bed and loosely braid to prevent overnight tangling
  • Deep condition weekly to maintain elasticity and reduce breakage

Damage-free detangling is a technique, not a miracle. Learn it once. Use it every time.
